Christmas Message 2024
In America, this past year has been about the Red and the Blue, and who could be a savior for the American republic. Now we await that day in January when a new president will be sworn in. Will Trump be that savior? We should hope so, but that remains to be seen. For now, though, we trade in the red and blue for the red and green to celebrate the coming of what Christians believe to be the ultimate savior, not just of a nation for a span of years, but for all souls for the span of eternity.
What we hope our next president can do for us, pales in comparison to what we believe Christ has already done for us. What we will celebrate on January 20th as joyful as that will be for many Americans, will not come close to what we will be celebrating on December 25th, neither in scope nor in ultimate importance to everyone the world over.
For a few days at least, lets celebrate the reason for the season and remember Christ’s arrival was also anxiously awaited and was attended by a few both high and low as described in the Gospel of Luke:
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them,
Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
This is the season we give cards, and gifts, but let’s also like the Angel said, give glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, and good will to our fellow man.
Merry Christmas!
