Memorial Day Message 2026

The United States is an exceptional country. We had and exceptional beginning– the only country at the time to be founded on an idea, rather than an ethnic, linguistic, or geographical claim. It’s unique purpose for being is found in our founding document:  “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness.”  – the Declaration of Independence. It’s what attracted people to it from all over the world. Those people made it, and continue to make it, an exceptional country without rival in history. It is perhaps, why so many have laid down their life for her, so that those blessings of life and liberty can be passed down to future generations of Americans.

God willing, precious few Americans will have to make the ultimate sacrifice on future battlefields. If they do, pray that what they fight for are the values that patriots 250 years ago risked their blood and treasure for. Pray that what they are asked to give their lives for are those same things that our founding generation fought for. In the meantime, we thank all those who have made the supreme sacrifice so that the ideas put down on a piece of parchment some two and a half centuries ago still endure today.
