St. Thomas Moore had his Utopia, Marx and Engels had their Communist Manifesto. Though the latter is better known for the destructive nature of its implementation in this and the last century, it has a commonality with the other books mentioned: the necessity of authoritarianism. It is this need for an authoritarian form of government and a ruling class, either explicit as in the Republic or implicit as with Marx and Engels that binds most, if not all Utopian systems with each other.

Though Marx and Engels would say the object of socialism is as a stepping stone to communism, where there are no social distinctions, and the state would simply “wither away”, we know from real life that those who claim the mantle of philosopher kings expect the rest of us to bestow upon them rights and privileges not available to to common folk.

We have an entire generation mostly ignorant of how destructive socialism was during the 20th century, and they vote that way.

These are only a couple of examples, there are more, and maybe more we don't yet know about. If against prediction #7, a Democrat is elected president, it will be under a dark cloud of suspected election fraud.
